The perpetrator was quickly located on Facebook
Elina van Zanten from Schoonloo in the province of Drenthe has reported to the police that she was spat in the face by a cyclist on Sunday, reports the Asser Courant.
The 32-year-old mother was walking on the Westdorperstraat in Schoonloo on Sunday morning with her two children, aged 3 and 18 months. An upcoming racing cyclist was startled by her elder daughter, who had walked a little further with her balance bike.
“First he got angry with my daughter, then with me,” said Van Zanten. “He raged pretty hard. Then I said: keep cycling, I hope we don’t meet again!” The cyclist initially left in a huff, but returned a little later.
“He said nothing and spat in my face. My cheek and neck were covered with it. ” The young mother was perplexed and speechless. “I was so surprised,” she says. “Who does that? At first I didn’t even think about the virus, but now it’s another concern!”
Van Zanten got in her car to look for the cyclist, but could not find him. On the way she posted on Facebook post about her experience. That was shared en-masse and the perpetrator was quickly discovered.
Yesterday afternoon there was a conversation between both parties. Van Zanten, who is still in shocked that the incident occurred, and the reactions it is generating, has decided to report it today to the police.
