Hay bales in fields across Drenthe are being wrapped in yellow plastic to raise awareness for childhood cancers.
The initiative is coordinated by the Dutch children’s cancer foundation KiKa. For each hay bale wrapped in yellow, nine euros will be donated to the foundation.
RTV Drenthe reports that there are relatively few yellow-wrapped hay bales so far, but far more are expected to be added during the peak of the harvesting season in coming months.
Anton Dedden, the manufacturer who creates the yellow wrapping, says that the company was part of a similar campaign two years ago with pink plastic wrapping to raise awareness for breast cancer. That initiative saw 60,000 pink hay bales covering farmland in the province.
Dedden hopes this campaign will be similarly successful. “You can wrap 20 bales of hay with a single role of the wrapping film, so that could easily translate into about 25,000 euros raised.”
