A 20-year-old woman passed away after being stabbed in a home on Hoofdstraat in Emmen on Monday morning.
According to the police, a 21-year-old man was arrested as a suspect. Sources claim that both the victim and the attacker are international students.
Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the stabbing happened around 5:30 a.m.. It’s still unclear what exactly happened. The police remained on the scene on Tuesday to carry out a forensic investigation around the home. Both the victim and the suspect lived in Emmen.

A weapon was found in the room where Leonore Prothman, a 20-year-old student from Germany, was stabbed. A 21-year-old male student from Italy is suspected of attacking her. Both of the students were enrolled at NHL Stenden in Emmen. The police would not confirm if the two international students were housemates. The suspect is scheduled to be seen in court on Thursday to determine if he should remain in jail.
