Approximately 30 sheep perished in the attacks
DNA analysis has proved that the sheep killed in Drenthe at the end of November were attacked by a wolf.
At the end of November various reports were received of dead sheep in Onnen, Anderen, Grolloo and Eext, amongst others. It was already suspected that a wolf was responsible for the slaughter.
Research from Wageningen University now shows that the sheep were mauled to death by a wolf. It may be a German adolescent wolf on its first trip alone. Young wolves often do this in the winter months to discover their surroundings. Often the wolves go back to their own area after the winter.
In December 2018 a wolf was also seen in the Northern Netherlands.
