Both an Emergency Care department and quick-access GP post will open
Translated by Thomas Ansell
As reported by RTV Drenthe, the Wilhelmina Ziekenhuis Assen (WZA) has opened its new Spoedplein today. Both the Emergency Care (Spoedeisende Hulp, or SEH) and the emergency GP Station (Huisartsenspoedpost, or HAP) will sit in the new facility; and will make use of a new shared reception desk and consultation rooms.
The idea behind the ‘speed-square’ is so that care providers and medical staff can work together better, to make sure that Emergency patients are dealt with as well as possible. Extra consultation rooms have been built, so that the HAP has more space than before. In the evenings, the SEH will also be able to make use of the new space.
The Spoedplein has come about thanks to a new partnership between the Wilhelmina Ziekenhuis and the Centrale Huisartsdienst Drenthe (Central GP Service Drenthe). The new reception area is particularly important, with patients able to reach the doctor or nurse with the right expertise sooner.
An existing HAP-tent is to be removed, and in the near future the hospital will begin refurbishing its Emergency Care department.
