This upcoming weekend, the Aa Kerk in the heart of Groningen will once again host the Whisky Festival Noord Nederland. Over the years, the event has become a staple in many Groningers’ calendars. The festival also draws large numbers of whisky lovers from across Europe to the city.
The Groninger Internet Courant reports that the annual event is not just for dram experts: the festival organisers say that whisky novices are also more than welcome. This year, the festival will feature a package designed especially for newcomers to the world of whisky, which includes admission, entry to a master class of your choice and participation in an educational and accessible tasting session offered by a whisky expert. For veterans of the whisky scene, there are a range of ticket packages, including over-night stays, luxury packages, and special arrangements for extra tastings
Every visitor is given their own tasting glass upon entry, and much of the whisky on display at the festival is free to try. From Friday through Sunday, the Aa kerk will be filled with stalls and stands from whisky importers from across the world. The programme also includes tasting sessions, master classes and Internationally-renowned speakers. Famous writers on the subject will also on hand to autograph books for fans.
