The Leeuwarder Courant has put together a list of cultural activities going on during Ascension Day in the province of Friesland.
At the Watergate
Thousands of young musicians from across Europe will be performing at 50 different stages in the Frisian city of Sneek during At the Watergate. This year marks the 13thedition of the European Youth Music Festival and features acts from a wide range of musical genres, from symphonic to choral and jazz to pop and rock. The event is free and is running from 9 May through 11 May.
Oerrock
The three-day Oerrock festival in Ureterp is kicking off on Ascension Day with performances by popular Dutch acts, including Anouk. Chef’Special and Di-Rect. The festival, which is free on Friday, will include shows by De Kast, De Dijk, Skaevver and BZB. Saturday’s line-up is dedicated to cover bands.
Flower market
The Flower Market in Leeuwarden will be held on Ascension Day this year, as is tradition. The Leeuwarden edition is even bigger than the flower market held in Groningen each spring. Visitors can browse thousands of varieties of flowers and plants in the city until 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Heaven Open Air
This musical festival in Heerenveen features DJs and MCs, including Def Rhymz, Paul Elstak and Lil Kleine at the P6 Terrein. Tickets are 28.50.
Hemels
This is the biggest dance festival in the north and its taking place at the Oldehove church yard in Leeuwarden. Acts include Kraantje Pappie, Deepend, Mike Williams, Mental Theo, and Moski. Tickets are 10 euros.
