On Saturday September 7, all museums in Groningen will welcome visitors for the 3rd edition of the Groninger Museum Night. Between 7 pm and 1 am, the Groninger Museum, GRID Graphic Museum Groningen, Northern Maritime Museum, University Museum Groningen and a new must-visit attraction, Storyworld museum for comics, animation and game, will be open for a single ticket of 5 euros.

Before you head off to get your entry wristband, we have taken a look at the programme and picked out some language-no-problem highlights, talks, tours, workshops, dance and music sessions.

Groninger Museum

Join Student Walk-In and discover secret stories behind the artworks and exhibitions. After enjoying dance performance by NIGHTS_X_YUSUF_BOSS, listen to electropop by De Nachtwinkel or from-classical-to-pop repertoire by USVA: Groningen Student Choir. When inspired, mix your videos live on music at Workshop VJ, create your own artwork on the window of the museum at Raamkunstwerk, decorate your bag at Tasjes bedrukken and get a museum night tattoo at Museumnacht-tattoo. In the end, don’t forget to check enormously popular Silent Disco with Sonomi & Jens Bakker – music in your ears and you are free to dance!

Northern Maritime Museum

Dive into a truly local experience: meet such historical characters like Carl von Rabenhaupt (he played an important role in the Siege of Groningen in 1672); go on cruise with Emma, a vessel built in 1922; or learn some Gronings with Olaf Vos! You can also relax and listen to short stories with music at Lie Down & Listen, learn more about the history and landscape of the Zuiderzee and the polders at Mini-college Zuiderzeeballade, enjoy jazz by Shjazz Jazz duo and some oriental sounds by Marchal.

University Museum

With USVA band & Blauwburg Collective DJ Duo, those who love singing and dancing can do so right around the museum’s artefacts. If performing next to stuffed birds is not enough, one can combine yoga with drinking beer at famous Bier Yoga.

Storyworld (pop-up location)

Visitors to Storyworld at a pop-up location on Hereplein can learn how to draw cartoon characters at DRAW!, create mini animation at Remake, make a four-second GIFs at Gif it to me, draw true-to-nature illustrations or enjoy nostalgic gaming at Awesome Retro.

GRID Graphic Museum

At this museum at Sint Jansstraat 2, art-lovers can make customised beer mats at Druk & Drink, experiment with Arabic, Georgian and Hebrew letters at Spel over de grens! and play with paper at Turks bad. Or simply listen to Jazz from New Orleans by Alto Kwartet, Yiddish music by Klezmer & Co and dance with Bailemos!
