The new website hopes to make volunteering accessible

As reported by the Omrop Fryslân, the Gemeente Westellingwerf in the south of the Province has opened a new Vrijwilligerspunt to help match volunteers with various good causes.
The website isn’t just for organisations, either, and groups such as the elderly or less-able can also upload small tasks that they may need help with. For example, if an elderly person needed help with DIY, garden work, or shopping they can put up an advert- or if a resident would like to find someone to cycle with, or speak to regularly.
The Vrijwilligerspunt also has information intended to help charitable organisations; not only with finding volunteers but also with questions regarding working, contracts and insurance. Naturally, listings will also be placed on the website where those that wish to get involved with an organisation can see the opportunities available.
Whilst previously the Gemeente provided the same assistance to good causes, the information wasn’t very visible, says the project co-ordinator Mirjam Kooman. “We felt that a platform was required where people could find each other and that was easily accessible. We’re proud of the new website, and think that its design certainly makes it accessible. Volunteers can see vacancies and adverts very easily, and then get in contact simply.”
