The province is well below the national per-capita infection rate
For the third week in a row, the number of new Coronavirus infections in the province of Groningen has fallen, says the GGD, with 705 new infections recorded. Last week, 751 infections were confirmed; the week before 890. As reported by the GIC.
The infection rate in the province of Groningen is 123 cases per 100,000 inhabitants: well below the national average of 203 per 100,000 inhabitants. Despite this, the situation in Groningen, with this infection rate and 39 hospital admissions per 1,000,000 inhabitants, is still “very serious”.
Infections were mainly confirmed in people (42 percent) between the ages of 30 and 65. The smallest group (5 percent) was older than 65 years, demonstrating the effectiveness of the ongoing vaccination programme in preventing spiralling cases in older people.
Vaccinations
Last week, week 19, the GGD Groningen administered 27,397 vaccinations. According to the GGD, there is a lot of scaling up: about 4000 injections are now carried out per day.
