The Dutch weather institute KNMI has just issued a orange weather warning for Groningen and the rest of the Netherlands due to severe thunder and hail storms.
There was already a yellow warning in place but it has been upscaled to orange. It’s predicted that the storms will reach the Netherlands in the afternoon and will last until midnight. The storm entails winds up to 75-100km per hour, locally 20-40mm rainfall, heavy thunderstorms, and hail stones that can get 4cm large.
There’s a risk of trees collapsing, flooding, lightning strikes and big hailstones which can lead to damage, which could lead to dangerous situations if spending time outdoors and for traffic.
Wednesday evening will be a lot warmer and dryer again as temperatures will reach 24 °C, so watching the Netherlands vs England Euros match outside won’t be an issue. At 21:00, when the match starts, it’s expected to be dry and sunny according to Weeronline.
The storm warning is valid from 16:00 until midnight today.
