The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued a code yellow warning for the northern provinces, warning of thunderstorms, strong wind gusts, and hail. The warning is in effect from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM today.
Gusty winds and hail possible
“A cold front will move over us this afternoon, bringing gusty showers with rain and possibly thunderstorms,” says RTV Drenthe meteorologist Hans Nienhuis. “The wind will also pick up at times. It could get a bit wild.”
According to the KNMI, wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour are possible with the thunderstorms. There is also a chance of hail, which could cause localized slipperiness. The bad weather will move away from our province in an easterly direction.
Cold temperatures expected
The coming days will remain changeable. “This is the prelude to what awaits us for the rest of the week, because we are keeping a strong showery weather pattern,” said Nienhuis. “And a degree of frost is possible on the ground at night.”
As a precautionary measure, individuals are advised to secure loose objects outdoors and take extra care when commuting or engaging in outdoor activities. Additionally, staying updated on weather advisories and heeding any official warnings is essential to mitigate risks associated with the adverse weather conditions.
