Groningen police report that a “violent incident” left one person dead on the Jaagpad in the Paddepoel neighbourhood on Tuesday night, and the suspect remains at large.

RTV Noord reports that the victim of the attack on Tuesday is a 27-year-old man from Groningen. On Wednesday morning, 20 investigators were on the scene of the incident and a police helicopter is also involved in the search for the suspected killer.

According to reporting by the Groninger Internet Courant on NU.nl, a police spokesperson says that the exact circumstances of the person’s death are unclear. The identity of the victim has not been made public thus far. The police believe that there was only one suspect and one victim.
The police have shared a description of the suspected killer: a 20- to 30-year-old man who is between 1.70 and 1.80 meters tall (5 foot 7 inches to 5 foot 9 inches) and appears to be of Southern European descent. The suspect was reportedly wearing a dark-coloured track suit and baseball cap, and police are asking the public to call the emergency number 112 if they see someone matching the description.

In a tweet about the incident, the police state that eye witnesses reported seeing someone they believed to be the suspect fleeing in the direction of a scouting building on the Jaagpad and then onward toward Selwerd and Paddepoel. The location of the fatal attack is close to the Zernike campus.
