Dat is Groningen, Spraakmakend and City Central are working together to show just who Groningen’s international population is through their “Ik ben een Groninger” video series.

By Traci White

The goal of “Ik ben een Groninger” is to reflect the diversity of Groningen by featuring all 190 nationalities of the city. “You can see how all different kinds of people feel at home here”, according to the Dat is Groningen website.

The videos, which are published every Friday at noon, are fairly short – around 30 seconds long – and feature a different foreign person each week. The first two videos have featured people from China and Mexico, and Dat is Groningen is looking for people from every nationality represented in the city.

Dat is Groningen itself launched in 2017 as a platform to share stories about “solidarity, inclusivity and diversity.” Spraakmakend is a media platform based in the northern Netherlands. City Central, which opened last year in November, is an information center for internationals in the city located at the Aa Kerk.
