Henryetta the cow has a series of windows in her side to allow students to see what’s happening within
Translated by Thomas Ansell
The Hogeschool Van Hall Laurenstein in Leeuwarden has acquired a unique fake cow to better inform students in their agriculture courses about artificial insemination. The cow model has a series of windows in its side, along with interior lighting and easily-opened sections that will allow students to view exactly what’s happening inside.
Titia Fokkema- Van der Ploeg, a professor in Animal and Dairy Animal Care, says: “my background is in veterinary sciences, and so its great to be able to show these processes. We can show how the reproductive system works really well, and both simulate and demonstrate it.”
Henryetta, the dummy cow, is the most realistic training apparatus on the market, is made of fiberglass with silicone innards. There are four windows in the side of the cow, to show what is going on inside, and a warming system simulates the internal organs of a cow.
