Groningen’s Forum will be organising a US election watch party throughout the night, starting on the 5th of November.
This year’s elections in America will see Donald Trump, who faces several criminal charges, and Kamala Harris, who might become the country’s first female president. The choice between Democrats and Republicans is set to determine the rights of women and minorities in America and America’s position in the world among other things.
Starting at 21:00 on November 5th, the forum will provide an interactive program to help you stay up to date with what’s happening in American politics. There will be lectures and talks on important societal issues in US society and also discussions about the influence of big pop stars like Beyonce and Taylor Swift on the elections.
Activist and abortion doctor Dr. Rebecca Gomperts will speak about her work as the founder of AidAccess, Women on Waves, and Women on Web as well as her quest to make abortion pills accessible to women in America. Of course, American politics, the presidential candidates, and America’s role as a military superpower will also be discussed by different researchers.
There will also be a pub quiz, an American fair, a mechanical bull, and a cheerleading workshop as well as doughnuts and coffee to keep you awake until the results come in.
The watch party starts on the 5th of November from 21:00 and runs until 05:00 the next day. The entire program will be in English. Tickets are €17.50 and can be bought here.
For this event, Forum Groningen will be collaborating with the student associations SIB, CLIO, and EPU.
