US brand to open hydrogen truck factory with Groninger partner

HYZON and Holthausen will collaborate on the trucks

Holthausen from Hoogezand in the province of Groningen will begin producing hydrogen trucks on a large scale for the European market, in collaboration with the US company HYZON. At the moment, Holthausen is working to convert trucks into hydrogen cars, but will start building hydrogen trucks of its own brand in the coming years. A new location is currently being sought for a factory, the preference being for the municipality of Groningen.

Holthausen is one of the few companies in the Netherlands that has experience with cars that run on hydrogen, reports the GIC.

Together with Holthausen, HYZON now wants to build hydrogen trucks for the European market.
“We will make hydrogen trucks produced in Europe, for Europe,” tweeted Max Holthausen: “HYZON Motors Europe is officially live !!! We will start rolling out heavy duty hydrogen trucks that are build in Europe for Europe as a new OEM specialised in hydrogen heavy duty trucks! ”

Max Holthausen informed RTV Noord that they have been building hydrogen trucks of their own brand in Hoogezand for several months. The aim is to increase that production to two thousand trucks per year within three to four years.

Expansion of capacity requires new business space. The preference is for the municipality of Groningen, which has lavished large amounts of public money in helping the fledgling business: “One of our largest customers, and a party that made it possible for us to start with hydrogen, is the municipality of Groningen. They have given us the opportunity, and we want to give something in return. Now that we can tackle this in a big way with a foreign partner, we would like to keep it in the Northern Netherlands, and preferably in Groningen”, said Max Holthausen to RTV Noord.
