The University of Groningen will receive one million euros from the European Commission to train four PhD students in researching the “human exploitation of vertebrate marine animals”, as reported by the Groningen local television station OOGTV.
The four RUG PhD students will investigate the consequences of fishing for vertebrate marine animals, such as marine fish, sea turtles, walruses and whales.
The subsidy comes from the EU project “SeaChanges”, intended to keep the “marine environment” healthy and thereby ensure a consistent supply of fish for food.
