The RUG is working towards having a third of its Professorships filled by women by the end of 2025
In overdue diversity news, the number of woman Professors in Groningen is increasing rapidly. Fifteen female professors will be added, reports the University of Groningen.
On International Women’s Day this spring, rector magnificus Cisca Wijmenga announced that the RUG is creating fifteen chairs for female professors; the Aletta Jacobs chairs. Fifteen professors will start soon. The RUG is now well on track to achieve the ambition of 33% female professors by the end of 2025.
The professors are to be appointed at six faculties. The positions concern three positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business, two positions at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, two at the Faculty of Law; two at the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences, three at the Faculty of Arts and three positions at the UMCG.
Cisca Wijmenga says: “We were able to fill the fifteen chairs at a relatively fast pace, while appointing a professor is an extensive process. This also shows that there are enough potential female candidates. I therefore look forward to the ambition that we at the University of Groningen have set for 2025, namely 33% female professors. ”
