The Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen (RUG) will be developing an AI assistant to help take witness statements in criminal cases.
In a statement, the RUG said it signed a letter of intent with Capgemini Netherlands and Scotty AI to conduct research to find the answer to the question, “Can the taking of witness statements in criminal cases be automated using artificial intelligence (AI)?”
They will research whether AI can support witness statement interviews without compromising important legal safeguards, the quality of the statements, and the privacy and security of personal data.
The collaboration will take place in a living lab,’ which is multidisciplinary will allow the researchers to explore different technical, legal, psychological, and ethical dilemmas.
