The time of mass lecture for students is over. In the future, students at the University of Groningen (RUG) will have to rely on lectures that you can stream, and small tutorials for meeting eachother and for social contacts. Chairman Jouke de Vries of the Executive Board of the University of Groningen argued this point during a meeting with students in Groningen, which was also attended by Minister van Engelshoven of Education.

According to Jouke de Vries, the smaller-scale lectures do require considerably more space than the mass lectures. Therefore, according to the report in the University newspaper (Ukrant) on Friday, the entire city of Groningen should be used as a kind of university.

The Dutch Minister of Education, Mrs. Ingrid van Engelshoven, agreed with De Vries that there will be no mass lectures. According to her, De Vries should work with the municipality of Groningen to see which public places can be used to make more possible class rooms.
