Associate Professor Tjeerd Andringa, who taught the ‘Systems View on Life’ course at the University College Groningen (UCG), a faculty of the University of Groningen, has been suspended pending an independent investigation, the school announced in its Friday news release.
“It has become evident that, as a result of the current situation, Tjeerd Andringa […] will not be able to teach at a level that both parties deem necessary,” according to the university’s statement. “It has therefore been decided that he will not teach at the UCG during the investigation, pending the outcome.”
Earlier, UCG scrapped the embattled lecturer’s course.
In his lectures to first-year students, Andringa, a physicist by training, allegedly promoted conspiracy theories about vaccinations, ‘the dominance of Jews’ and the attacks on the Twin Towers. He also denied climate change was caused by human activity and tried to convince his students of his ‘alternative truth’.
