A lecturer at the University College Groningen (UCG) has been formally reprimanded after students complained that he was using conspiracy theories as course materials, the Groninger Internet Courant reports.
Associate Professor Tjeerd Andringa taught the ‘Systems View on Life’ course at UCG, a faculty of the University of Groningen. In his lectures to first-year students, he is alleged to have promoted conspiracy theories about vaccinations, ‘the dominance of Jews’ and the attacks on the Twin Towers. He also denied climate change was caused by human activity and tried to convince his students of his ‘alternative truth’.
According to the university newspaper Ukrant, UCG has scrapped the conspiracy lecturer’s course.
The faculty board instituted extra supervision of Andringa’s lectures to ensure they meet quality requirements and guidelines.
