Doerak, who now has more than 2,700 followers on Instagram, will receive his own student ID card following a brief online campaign by Doerak’s owner, Ekko Ros. On Monday, Ros presented a series of photos of other universities around the world that have printed novelty cards for cats who have adopted university buidlings are part of their territory.
By Tuesday, Ros had been approached by the university to inform him that his affectionate pet would be joining his “cat-colleagues” and have his very own ID badge. Ros told the Universiteitskrant that he was actually surprised to hear that the RUG would be commissioning a Doerak ID card. “I think its very funny. We knew that the staff and students had really fallen in love with Doerak, and this is a humourous way to confirm his status.”
Doerak, whose owner lives near the Harmonie Complex in the city centre, is a seven-year-old half Persian, half Maine Coone cat who has been spotted hanging out on student’s laps in recent months. Doerak has been spotted climbing into student’s purses and waiting for the sliding door motion sensors to detect and let him into the Harmonie building for the day.
