Sijbren Otto, a Systems Chemistry professor at the University of Groningen, has won the Supramolecular Chemistry Award 2018 from the British Royal Society of Chemistry.
Professor Otto received the biennial award for his pioneering work in supramolecular systems chemistry for his research into molecular networks.
Supramolecular refers to structures that consist of many different molecules, and systems chemistry studies networks of interacting molecules. Otto’s current research is focused on how chemicals have evolved throughout history.
“I’m deeply honored to win this prize”, says professor Otto. “It’s nice to receive this recognition from my colleagues. There are a lot of big names in the field among the former owners, so it’s really wonderful to be included among them.
Otto will receive 2,000 pounds, a medal and a certificate for winning the award, and will be invited to give a lecture tour in the United Kingdom.
