The University of Groningen is in 79th place on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) this year.
This is up four places from last year, when the University of Groningen was in 83rd place. In 2015, the University of Groningen achieved its highest position yet in the THE, coming in at 74th place.
In August, it was announced that the UG had dropped to 72nd place overall in the Shanghai Ranking (ARWU). The UG is currently ranks 120th on the QS ranking list. Oxford University topped the THE last this year, and the other Dutch universities in the top 100 are Delft University of Technology (58th), Wageningen University (shared 59th), University of Amsterdam (62nd), Leiden University (68th), Erasmus University (70th) and Utrecht University (74th).
Each of the rankings relies on different methodology, ranging from self reporting to peer evaluations, and typically evaluate academic institutions as a whole rather than focusing on the performance of individual faculties. Within the Netherlands, individual departments are assessed in the Keuzegids for bachelor and master degree programmes, as well as universities on an institutional level.
