On March 8th, International Women’s Day, two communities made especially by and for women have joined forces to organise an event to celebrate women’s achievements at De Huiskamer, located near the Sugarhomes housing units.
The communities Lean in Groningen and Women Devs are organising an event revolving around supporting women. The event will consist of four talks in total. Two of which will contain more general themes and will be delivered by speakers from Lean In Groningen. Speakers from Women Devs will then present another two talks centred around women working in the tech field. There will be time to network, have fun, and enjoy some food and drinks at the end of the event
The speakers will be revealed week by week on the event’s website. So far the first two have been announced: Thrisanka Smaal, who is a transformation expert and team coach, whose talk is titled “Athenticity: How I Found Mine and Strategies for Your True Self” and Qing Gong, who is a coach and entrepreneur, who will talk about “Blooming Beyond Borders: My Journey of Integration in The Netherlands”.
Lean In Groningen is a community for women living in Groningen, who want to empower themselves, be brave, and lean in. They meet up once a month and their main aim is discussing how to reach the same goals as men and how to create a more gender-neutral society. The society exists in many cities around the world.
Women Devs, or Women Developers, is a sustainable community dedicated to women developers working or studying in any field related to technology. They create an open environment to share knowledge, experience, tips, and visions by organising talks, workshops, and meetups.
The Women’s Day event will be on March 8th at 5:30 PM at De Huiskamer, Suikerlaan 18. Joining the event is free but requires a signup on the website.
Everyone, regardless of gender, who is interested in supporting women, learning more about women in tech, or just wants to socialise and network is welcome to join.
