Tashi Norbu, a Tibetan artist, has built a massive wooden Urban Buddha at the Rensenpark In Emmen.

The wooden structure is part of the Museum of Contemporary Tibetan Art, which Norbu opened in Rensenpark (the former location of the Emmen Animal Park) last year.
Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the Tibetan artist built the Urban Buddha together with Emmen-based graffiti artist Karin Sibering for the Emmen Goes Eco festival. The Buddha, which is still technically under construction, was relocated to its permanent location on Sunday, where it will be completed.
Norbu has previously built wooden Buddhas in India and Chicago, and has plans to create one in Toronto. Norbu deliberately builds them from salvaged wood to make a statement about how important it is for mankind to use natural resources frugally, and he hopes that the Buddhas leave people who see them feeling happier.
