The Assen police arrested three men overnight suspected of connection to an incident involving a gun at the train station.
The incident occurred at the Stationsplein, and the police briefly set up a perimeter to investigate the scene. At least one shot was reportedly fired, but no injuries were reported.
A 23-year-old man from Beilen, a 26-year-old man from Assen and a 22-year-old man from Groningen were arrested. Dagblad van het Noorden reports that two of the men in custody were suspected of being involved in a fight with at least two other people on a bridge near the train tracks. The police are still looking for other suspects.
Although the police cannot yet say with full certainty that a gun was fired, a bullet casing was found in the vicinity. A forensics team inspected the site and a tracking dog was brought in to check in rubbish bins and other areas for additional evidence. The police also inspected the roof of the main station building in connection to the incident.
