The Netherlands’ biggest motor racing event is set to get even bigger
Translated by Niels Timmerman
The TT festival in Assen in 2020 will last nine days, instead of the usual three. The festivities will start next year on June 20 with the traditional TT Fair. Various activities will follow from Saturday to Wednesday, both at the fair and in the city center. As usual, the TT nights follow on Thursday through Saturday with live music on multiple stages and lots of motor-cycling-related entertainment.
Traditions like the TT NightRide are already part of the festival, but the organisation is adding in even more new events. Next year it will also be investigated whether the fair can be moved to the center of Assen, from 2021.
The festival is also committed to offering more talent from Drenthe a stage in the coming years. This may involve musical, motorcycling, or entrepreneurial talent. The festival also wants to take further steps in the field of sustainability: an important part of this is getting waste streams under control.
The TT Festival will also strive for a safe festival. In recent years, the municipality of Assen has banned the use of glass at the event, and also prohibited the sale of glass and cans during the festival. The festival wants to take even more measures in the coming years to prevent the use of glass and cans.
A TT Kids festival has been organised to run next to the main event for several years, but the foundation wants to involve the youth even more actively in the festival by, for example, developing a teaching package for primary schools.
