The largest social organisation for Internationals in the North has put together a whole host of events that involve getting outdoors
By Thomas Ansell
Connect International, the largest social organisation in the North, has just released its summer series of outdoor activities. For all of the planned events, check out the Connect International website calendar. We’ve gone through the list, though, and made some Northern Times choices! Check out what’s on below:
City Tour Delfzijl
June 12
Delfzijl sits on the northern coast of Northern Groningen: and is a pretty port city that has just opened the Provinces’ first sandy beach! The trip will even include a spot of lunch at the Eemshotel, a local landmark that stands on stilts in the sea, as well as a trip to view the aquarium; housing a WW2 defence bunker. Check out the event here.
Bike Tour Hoornsemeer and Paterswoldsemeer
June 19
Hop on your bike for a relaxed tour around two of Groningen’s prettiest lakes: the Hoornsemeer and Paterswoldsemeer. For the full holiday experience, make sure to grab a soft-whip ice cream from the kiosk and take a dip in the remarkably shallow waters (just watch out for blue algae!) Check out the event here.
Shop Coolhunting
June 18
The streets of Groningen are great to louche along on a sunny afternoon, with plenty of independent shops and local designers lining the Oosterstraat, Zwanestraat, and the area around the Noorderplantsoen. With shopping being surveyed as one of the most popular leisure activities in Western Europe, join Connect’s snoop around Groningen, showcasing the best home goods stores (with other themed walks to come!). Check out the event here.
Walking Club Leeuwarden
June 15
Leeuwarden’s historic city centre is criss-crossed by canals, meaning that every street has the full ‘Dutch’ vibe. Luckily, it’s also got a whole heap of historic buildings, and interesting street art to boot. This evening edition will mean that the city is bathed in golden hour light, too. Check out the event here.
