The ESNS bring you a completely free showcase festival with European artists’ music

By Adriana Dancu

The thirty-fifth edition of the ESNS music festival arrived in the Netherlands, bringing great music artists from all over Europe. The ESNS festival is a great chance to forget for a bit about the Coronavirus, and enjoy great music from the comfort of your home. Because of the new anti-Coronavirus regulations, the festival moved online, and is streaming from 13 to 16 January 2021, and everyone can enjoy the great music for free.

ESNS festival

ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) is a non-profit organization founded in order to stimulate and encourage the circulation of European music across the European continent, and beyond. This year, the ESNS arrived to Groningen, the Netherlands, for a period of four days.

Artists today and tomorrow

Throughout the days of the festival, there will be dozens of artists singing from 20:00 to after 23:00. There will be artists from all over Europe, from Finland to Austria, to Germany and Romania.

Among the artists, you can find the Alternative, Rock and Pop band Hayes & Y. The band members are originally from Bulgaria and Finland. Their music style, especially in their song “All pressure/No pressure,” sets them apart from other similar bands, as they blend 1980s electronica with contemporary indie, which make them both timely and timeless. Hayes & Y will be singing tonight at 20:25 so do not miss them!

Deaf Radio is one of the most notable groups to emerge recently from Greece’s rising rock scene. The band has been active since 2015, and released three albums, their debut album Alarm was released in 2017. Deaf Radio combines alternative rock with desert rock, and created a new and captivating style. They will be playing tonight at 21:10, so check them out!

Lastly, another interesting and very captivating singer that will be present tonight, is Romania’s sensation, Lucia, whose song “Silence” was a hit in 2012. Her style is more of an indie pop, with heartfelt lyrics beautifully sung by her fragile vocals. Don’t miss Lucia tonight at 21:00!

The ESNS festival becomes even more interesting on Friday. PowPig, for example, a dynamic four-piece from Limerick, Ireland, comprised of Anna Marie Rooney, Andreea Mocanu, Laura Drennan and Leah O’Donnell, offer an interesting music style, as they can easily sway to the soft and pensive “Rosalee,” or cream in “Birds of Paradise.” The four-piece dynamic will be singing on Friday at 20:10. They’re also the top pick by the GIC newspaper!

The festival is not deprived of Dutch singers either. The lover and band members Danique and Bart, a creative duo composing the Donna Blue band, combine sultry indie pop with old Hollywood romance to create unique songs. The duo is originally from the Netherlands, but is slowly becoming known throughout Europe. Donna Blue will be singing tomorrow at 20:30.

Ukraine is bringing a unique singer as well. Formerly a teacher, Alyona Alyona now raps in Ukrainian and attracts fans with her lyrics. In her debut album Ribki, Alyona Alyona raps about societal issues that women confront, and hopes for a better future. The album became a viral hit, and is making the former kindergarten teacher a force to be reckon in the rap music industry. Alyona Alyona will be singing tomorrow at 22:15, so do not miss her!

The ESNS music festival has a lot more artists to introduce you, so check their website!
