In the travel guide Lonely Planet, the Netherlands has successful landed a place in the list for best destinations for the year 2020. The country is in seventh place on the list of “the best destinations, journeys and sustainable travel experiences for the year ahead”.
Included in this list is a photo of the Hoge Der A in Groningen. The guide praises the Wadden Sea and the many cycle paths the Netherlands has.
Lonely Planet encourages travellers to look beyond the capital. “Vibrant Amsterdam always deserves a visit, but by making use of the excellent train network you can explore a host of celebrations in stunning cities and get more bang for your euros.”
In May, Lonely Planet published a list of the ten best bars and cafés in Groningen. According to the travel guide, the city has no competition in the Netherlands when it comes to nightlife. “The northern city doesn’t do closing time, meaning revellers leaving clubs often cross paths with hawkers setting up their stalls on the market squares early in the morning.”
