Both an orchestra and ballet ensemble are coming to Drenthe
by Thomas Ansell
The classical-romantic ballet has been put on by a number of companies around the world, but ballet aficionados often point to Marius Petipa’s version, at the Mariinsky Ballet in St. Petersberg (in 1890), as the best.
Assen’s De Nieuwe Kolk performing arts centre will host the performance on Saturday, 4 January. Sleeping Beauty’s music is by Tchaikovsky, and parts of it have become incredibly well-known, for example “Sleeping Beauty Waltz”.
The Tatar State Opera and Ballet is based in the city of Kazan, in Tatarstan; central Russia. Their touring productions have drawn large crowds across Europe and the world, and their accompaniment by the Tatar State orchestra makes for an enchanting performance.
Tickets are available from 39.50 euros, and are available via De Nieuwe Kolk’s website
