Vitens says that using Roundup impacts the quality and hardness of the water. In order to provide clean water, the company uses wells to access water deeper underground and had to expand their treatment facilities.
According to the Leeuwarder Courant, the extra costs of processing the water are passed on to the consumers, meaning that their water bills are higher.
Roundup is used in the agriculture industry to kill weeds. Vitens is calling for the popular product to be banned.
