Original story follows below:
In comments to RTV Noord, police spokesperson Anthony Hogeveen said that the man was already in custody on suspicion of vandalism.
Sikkom reports that the family of Hidde Bergman, the 27-year-old man who was murdered while jogging on the Jaagpad on the 14th of May, has been informed of the arrest. It is unclear if the suspect had any connection to the victim.
Bergman was murdered on a path along the Reitdiep canal near the Zernike campus in the north of the city of Groningen: the University of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences encouraged students and staff not to travel alone on the campus following the deadly incident. Despite wide scale police searches and the release of a composite sketch of the suspect, he remained at large for nearly a month.
