Thursday August 30 2018 the UG welcomed nearly 2,600 new international students during the Welcoming Ceremony at the Oosterpoort.
After attending an opening session with speakers including Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken, Alderman Joost van Keulen and ESN president Tjitske Schokker, students could attend a variety of short interactive workshops and visit the information fair.
With over 40 exhibitors such as ACLO, Experience Groningen and a range of international student associations, the market served as a great opportunity to learn more about what the university and the city of Groningen have to offer.
The evening programme consisted of an exciting, sold out, first edition of the Welcoming PARTY for both Dutch and international first year students to encourage integration, and included nine live acts from around Groningen and Friesland, a Dutch food-tasting corner and a limited edition T-Shirt as a souvenir after a great night.
