One student organisation held a ‘study-in’ by the library in protest
Groningen students think that keeping the University Library (UB) in Groningen closed is unjustified, reports the GIC. On Saturday afternoon, members of the Student Organisation Groningen (SOG) held a demonstration on the Academieplein: with tables were placed one and a half meters apart whilst students studied in the open air.
According to the SOG, it is difficult for many students to study at home, because they don’t have enough space, have poor WiFi, or too many distractions. Most ‘study tips’ recommend working and relaxing in different places to create ‘mental boundaries’ between the two.
According to the student organization, students in Amsterdam and Rotterdam can already return to university libraries, so Groningen should be able to, too.
The students understand that the university board is cautious due to Coronavirus concerns, but they think that it should be possible to take appropriate measures to ensure safety and reopen the University Library.
