A number of students at RSG Magister Alvinus in the Frisian city of Sneek were mugged and beaten up during a school trip to Eastbourne in England earlier this week.

Omrop Fryslân reports that there were two separate incidents where students from the Frisian school were harassed during the school trip to the British town of Eastbourne. On Tuesday evening, five students were surrounded by a group of around 10 British teenagers when they were going to the grocery store before meeting up with the families they were staying with on the trip. Personal belongings, including money, bank cards and mobile phones were stolen.
A second incident occurred on Wednesday. Several students were followed and beaten up in a park in the city. One student had a tooth knocked out and was taken to hospital. After the second violent encounter, the school decided to cut the trip short and bring the students home. The group returned to the Netherlands on Thursday, and the school staff spoke with the parents of the students upon their return.
The Leeuwarder Courant reports that there were 54 students on the school trip, which included a day trip to London and a number of sports activities. RSG Magister Alvinus is an intermediate preparatory vocational education school and has around 2,200 students. The annual school trip usually goes to the city of Hastings, but the group went to Eastbourne instead this year.
