“Where is a vaccine against psychological problems?”, says a sign from a Groningen student. Last night she was one of the participants in a protest of hundreds of students at the Vismarkt for faster relaxation of the corona rules.
According to the students, who were addressed by a representative of the Groninger Studenten Bond (GSB), among others, there is growing psychological distress among young people due to the lockdown. Wednesday it will be exactly a year ago that the very first corona measures were taken. This takes a heavy toll on young people in particular.
On the site destudentuitisolement.nl, the organizers called on their fellow students in the city to come en masse to the Vismarkt.
At the Vismarkt they were also addressed by Jouke de Vries, chairman of the Executive Board of the University of Groningen. According to him, work is already being done to relax the strict corona rules. There will be 650 study places in the University Library and at various faculties. The RUG is also investigating the possibility of outdoor lessons and a building is open on Boteringestraat for study associations.
