So far 26 people have signed up
Sports student Chiel Kreuze (25) decided that he wanted to start a service that would gather volunteers to call lonely elderly people in Groningen, and so put out a call for assistance on Facebook under the title “support lonely elderly people”, reports the Groninger Internet Courant.
“The names and numbers of these people will end up on a call list, which I will hand over to the De Pelster care home on Tuesday”, said Kreuze.
This nursing home has 41 residents. “The intention is to link each resident to three people who can then be called by the resident.”
Chiel hopes that even more people will sign up so that he can also link other nursing homes to callers.
If you’d like to help, just e-mail belmeteenzameouderen@gmail.com – though almost all of the care home residents will speak Dutch, there may be a need for English speakers too.
