In news that came unexpectedly considering the success of Stadspark Live, the festival will no longer run following its last edition in 2023, according to their official website.
The festival hosted a total of three editions, with the first coming in 2019 with the likes of Sting and Anouk performing in front of a sold-out crowd. The two coronavirus years prevented the show from going on but they did return in 2022, with the likes of Simple Minds and Skunk Anasie headlining the event.
Although it was unknown at the time, the 2023 edition will now be remembered as the final Stadspark Live, and what a way to close it out. Internationally famous singer Lionel Ritchie closed out the show on June 19th in front of yet another sold-out crowd.
Despite their success in each of the three editions hosted, the festival has not seen the necessary growth it needed to continue hosting it. Couple that with the increase in costs and Stadspark Live was no longer a possibility beyond 2023.
Although the festival sadly says goodbye to the Groningen festival scene, Stadspark Live will be remembered fondly for attracting big stars to the city.
