SSH-owned international student house told off for huge party

If you’ve ever been in the Winschoterdiep house you’d turn to drink too

The owner of a student complex on the Winschoterdiep in Groningen has again reported that a party was organized by students again last weekend, despite the extra measures taken by SSH in October (after a similar party).

After the previous illegal party in October, extra employees, student administrators and extra security had been booked by SSH. Yet last weekend again in an international student house an illegal party was held on the Winschoterdiep, showing that SSH’s extra measures were about as effective as its repair team.

A resident celebrated her birthday last weekend with dozens of visitors, whilst images of the party in the student residence circulated on social media at the weekend and thus ended up in news outlets media. As reported by RTV Noord.

The property owner and landlord, student housing provider SSH, is uncomfortable with the issue.
‘Last time we spoke to the students and warned them several times to obey the rules,’ says SSH spokesperson Madelon van Gameren.

According to Van Gameren, it was a birthday party of one of the international students that attracted too many visitors, but the party ended early. “Security went to check out a quarter past twelve, then the party was already over.”

Van Gameren is disappointed that, despite several conversations, things went wrong again. “We are now going to see what needs to be done. We first talk to the resident to see what exactly happened. We will determine the sanctions on the basis of the interview. On the other hand, the students also have their own responsibility.”

SSH is the largest provider of squalid International student rooms in the city of Groningen.
