Tours will also be given by real prisoners
Visitors to the National Prison Museum in the province of Drenthe can get a unique experience this week, during the school holidays. An authentic- period prison transport bus has been called into action to take visitors to the Norgerhaven prison in Veenhuizen. They will then be shown around by a current in-mate. The Prison Museum in Veenhuizen is currently hosting the exhibition “Let me be myself – the life story of Anne Frank”. As reported by RTV Drenthe.
The tour guide for the first group was Rick, a current inmate.
“Welcome everyone. Let me be myself is the title of this exhibition. That quote is literally written in Anne Frank’s Diary,” he explains. Rick has been showing people around for three weeks. During the first two weeks, his audience mainly consisted of prison staff and fellow prisoners. Since this week people come in from outside the walls. “I think it went really well. As you do it more often and precisely because we have received a lot of information from the Anne Frank House, we can also communicate it well.”
