On Sunday (October 17), The Originators will perform together with singer Renske de Boer to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse. Moreover, this evening promises to be an ode to all the big and small heroes of the Northern Soul Scene, vows EM2, the venue for the event.

Chris van der Meer, drummer, and founder of “The Originators”, will dedicate the first set to Amy Winehouse, impersonated by Renske de Boer. The second set will be composed of all kinds of dance classics played and performed by The Originators.
Exceptional talent
Amy Winehouse became famous for her album “Back to Black,” which contained hit singles such as “Rehab” and “Back to Black.” Her collaboration with record producers such as Mark Ronson led to one of her most inescapable hit singles, “Valerie.” Sadly, she is not only known for her deep and expressive contralto vocals and her unique mix of musical genres that gifted her 23 awards and 60 nominations but also for her tragic death.
The 27 Club
Winehouse joined the so-called “27 Club”, a list consisting of celebrities who died at the young age of 27. The talented singer and songwriter passed away on July 23 in 2011, and by doing so followed in the footsteps of Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Jim Morrison.
As bandleader, Chris van der Meer was asked to pay tribute to the legendary singer during the Zwarte Cross Festival in 2015, which is when he got Renske de Boer on board. Together with the band, the charismatic lead singer performed a rock-solid show and managed to breathe new life into Winehouse’ most popular songs (see the video above).
After great feedback on their joint performance, the band and singer decided to give soul enthusiasts another chance to join in on a beautiful evening full of soul and jazz.
