Almost all of the ill people are self-isolating at home
At the UMCG in Groningen, six employees are now known to be infected with the Coronavirus. There are now eleven confirmed infections in the entire province of Groningen, reports the Groninger Internet Courant.
The hospital had called on everyone with complaints to report for testing, which have now shown that six staff members are infected. Some of them had travelled to places with many infections, however, those trips took place before the hospital took action and prohibited travel for staff.
The sick UMCG employees work in the radiotherapy, surgery, orthodontics, pediatrics and intensive care units. One of the infected colleagues is an Intensive Care nurse in training. This colleague has had contact not only with colleagues in the UMCG, but also with fellow students from other institutions. The institutions and fellow students have been informed about this, and asked to self-isolate.
To date, no patient has yet tested positive for the new coronavirus at the UMCG. The infection of a hospitalised patient was already known before their admission. About 200 employees have now been tested for the new corona virus, with more tests ongoing today.
The Surgery department will run a Sunday service on Monday, to map out contact they may have had, and to minimise the risk of any further spread.
Eleven infections have now been counted in the entire province of Groningen. There were five more yesterday. The new patients are almost all in home isolation. One of the patients is at the Martini Hospital.
