Ben Feringa, Arjen Robben, and Jannes could all get their own stars

Hollywood’s walk of fame comprises more than 2,690 red and gold stars, spread along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, and commemorating some of the most famous names to have lived and worked in the city.
But soon, you might not have to get on an 18-hour flight to have some stardust sprinkled on your life, as Emmen in Drenthe is planning its own walk of fame, reports RTV Drenthe.
Willem Meijer, the head of the shop-owners association ‘Het Oude Centrum’ is one of the brains behind the plans. Meijer says that the Emmen walk of fame could commemorate not only famous Emmenaars, but also well-known people from Groningen and Friesland.
“As people from the Northern-Netherlands, we’re very proud of our people, and this is a great way to let everyone see and know who we are, and our local heroes”, says Meijer. Plans will be presented to the Gemeente Emmen and Province of Drenthe in the coming weeks to try and figure out financing for the project, but Meijer says that the organisation may instead use crowd-funding and subsidies may be used.
The walk of fame is part of a larger package of eye-catching public realm projects that Meijer and ‘Het Oude Centrum’ have planned, including a water feature on the Noorderplein, as well as a general refurbishment of street furniture, railings, and planters.
The walk of fame could be complete by 2022.
