The Groninger institute for amateur culture, VRIJDAG, is hosting the ‘café’
Amongst all the negative news about the Coronavirus outbreak, song lovers can now join in with a ‘sing-along Café’, hosted online. The sing-alongs are part of an initiative by VRIJDAG: an amateur cultural organisation in Groningen, who say that there is a great need to sing together, even though everyone is at home, to raise spirits.
The ‘café’ will go online today at 16:00, and will continue each Friday after, as reported by the local broadcaster OOGTV.
The Meezing café was previously hosted by the VRIJDAG itself, but further meet-ups had to be postponed. Hannelore Duynstee, project manager of the Meezingcafé, noticed that large numbers of people were really looking forward to this activity and, therefore the decision to bring it online was taken.
“Everyone can participate, it does not matter if you can sing well,” she said in the OOG Morning Show on Friday morning.
Although everyone can see each other, only music (made by live artists) can be heard.
As long as Coronavirus measures stay in place, the activity will be conducted online, and will now be organised every week, instead of every month. For more information, or to sign up, check out the VRIJDAG website.
