An agricultural organisation is hoping that people who are temporarily jobless can pitch in to help
Companies in the agricultural and horticultural sectors in the three Northern provinces are suffering from a shortage of personnel, says the North Agricultural and Horticultural Organisation (LTO Noord). This is because many foreign workers cannot come to the Netherlands due to the Corona virus, RTV Drenthe reports.
LTO Noord hopes that people that are temporarily out of work, such as catering staff or cleaners, will be able to help. School students are also very welcome.
According to LTO Noord, two initiatives have been launched within the sector to ensure that the food supply does not come to a standstill. Employers that need personnel and those looking for work can register on two different websites.
At the moment, according to LTO Noord, farmers and horticulturists who have to harvest now have a shortage of hands. For example, asparagus growers will be picking their crop in the next few weeks. “They do have major problems, the harvest really has to go,” said a spokesman for the Agriculture and Horticulture Organization.
