Worrying numbers of hospital staff are catching the Coronavirus and having to quarantine
Both the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the UMCG are calling on medical students in Groningen to help out in nursing and care homes, and with home care services.
Many healthcare institutions in the Northern Netherlands have staff shortages due to sick employees, whilst buckling under the enormous pressure of increasing numbers of Coronavirus patients.
Hospitals such as the UMCG are also able to process fewer patients, because no transfers to nursing or care homes are being allowed, OOGTV reports.
“Many of you are already active in COVID care in addition to your studies, here and also in the other hospitals,” writes the UMCG. “If you have time, we would like to ask you to help out in the VVT. To support employees there or to take over tasks.”
Those with the necessary knowledge and experience can sign up via the CovidVrijwilliger website. Participants will be paid for their work, whilst study credit may also be available.
